WBC: I'm just not feelin' it (and other stuff)

It's going to be February soon. My least favorite month of the year. It's damned cold in Ohio, and there's nothing on TV sportswise. At least, no football or baseball. No basketball worth watching until March. And hockey? Who gives a crap. So you'd think in the midst of the sports dead zone that is winter I'd be excited about the World Baseball Classic, but I'm not.

Why? I don't really know. And it's not that I'm simply not looking forward to it. I'm actually dreading it, and more than a little. I mean, all I can think about is Pedro blowing out his arm or stubbing his damned toe. Then there's Reyes, LoDuca, Castro, Wagner, Zambrano, and a few others I'm freaking out about. What if Julio Franco gets hurt? Yeah, I know the guy is 103 and has the physique of a 20 year-old, but wouldn't it be just our luck to sign him and then watch him get injured in some idiot meaningless game halfway around the world? Oh, will the Braves fans be laughing their asses off! And I worry about Reyes, who has spent more than his share of time on the DL - he isn't exactly Iron Cal Ripken. And Paulie, seriously... do you really need the extra strain on your knees? You're not exactly 22 anymore, you know?

Ok, so maybe the Jets' 2005 season left me a little shell-shocked and jumpy about guys getting hurt and our season going to all to hell. And I guess I'd be a little less reticent if I thought for one minute that this whole thing wasn't some ill-conceived marketing scheme. Seriously, does anyone really give a damn if the USA wins? I know I don't. I also know I'll be watching something else on TV. There's always the Food Network.

The other stuff:

I'm less happy to see Seo go than Benson. Honestly I'm not thrilled with either trade, but Anna Benson was getting on my nerves. It's just amazing how a totally hot person can open their mouth and then *poof!* : suddenly, not so hot. Anyway, I always thought Seo was a much better pitcher than anyone in the Mets organization was giving him credit for. Now, if we do manage to sign Zito then you won't see another word out of me about Seo or Benson, but I'm not holding my breath. (Btw, is that who all the people who voted "other" on my poll question were thinking about? I think probably yes.)

Finally, who the heck is Mike Piazza's agent? He should be fired for letting Mike go around asking for 7-8 mil a year. That's just embarrassing. I hate to see that.

And that's all I have for now.
