Armchair GM (aka, NOT DEAD)

I guess I'm not big into offseason blogging. There's still this masochistic side of me that's too busy watching the Jets implode. They're like a train wreck and I can't look away.....

Anyway, it's friday night and I'm home with nothing else to do (read: LOSER) and I thought I should update the blog since it's been a few months. Plus, I kind of noticed that if you go a month or two without updating your blog, all of your fellow bloggers will drop you off of their lists of links like your DEAD. Jeez, can't a person take a little time off?

So here are some random thoughts about random guys:

Doug: I'm not your biggest fan anymore. I'm moving on. Now I need a new favorite Met. Wright is too popular in that Tiger Beat teen fantasy kind of way that makes me sick. I'd pick Woody if I didn't think he was a half a step away from being traded. Honestly, I'm at a loss here.

Furcal: no thanks. I'm hearing now that Raffy was just using the Mets to squeeze more cash out of those miserly Braves anyway. I'm relieved. I've never like the idea of taking a guy who has played his entire career at one position, and throwing him into another one. Not that I think Furcal couldn't pull it off, but am I the only person who noticed that guy has absolutely no discernable personality? That's just kind of creepy. Speaking of second base:

Is there any chance Kep or Hernandez will be ready to come up next year? If so, I say we hang on to the boatload of cash a guy like Furcal would demand. Speaking of boatloads of cash:

Omar, please don't overpay for Konerko or Delgado. Ok, maybe give Delgado lots of money if you can. But not Konerko. Save your money and go get John Olerud. Or Kevin Millar. Speaking of the Red Sox: I'm having these really disturbing images of Manny losing fly balls in the sun at Shea, or getting distracted by the jet planes buzzing Shea on their way to LaGuardia. So we're thinking it might be a good idea to put one of the worst defensive outfielders in the league in one of the toughest outfields in the league? He'd just better rack up a lot of freakin RBIs. That's all I'm saying.

Also, sign Billy Wagner. Please.

Where did I read that the Tigers would trade us Matsui for Rodriguez? Did I dream that? If it's for real, I say we take that trade in a heartbeat. I'd rather take Bengie Molina, but given all the other players on the Mets offseason wishlist, I'm not sure Wilpon's pockets are quite that deep.

All in all, I guess I'm not expecting any gigantic moves from the Mets this offseason. I think if all we do is improve the bullpen, I won't call it a total loss.
